Osprey Nesting Sites in the Tweed
Since monitoring of Osprey nesting sites began in the Tweed Local Government area in the early 1990s Osprey breeding sites have been allocated a number with the prefix “T” for Tweed, and a name. Each new site gets the next sequential number. As at 2023 numbers 1 to 53 have been allocated, 29 of which are still in existence. Many nests have gone over the years through natural attrition of nest trees, and urban development, or have simply been abandoned by the Ospreys. Currently in the Tweed all but one breeding site are located on dedicated artificial cradles, erected close to where Ospreys have tried to nest in inappropriate locations such as on power poles, lighting towers, or other anthropogenic infrastructure.
