Exciting news at the Boyle Ave nest in Banora Point. The female, who is new at that nest site this year, is banded. She was banded by Dr Greg Clancy at the Blackwatch nest in 2013. This female was sighted still hanging round the Blackwatch nest in 2014, but has not been reported since. In the following years she has not been seen in the area. We did not know whether she had moved away from our area or whether she had possibly died. So we now know she has been elsewhere in the last decade and, for reasons unknown to us, she has suddenly returned and paired up with the male at the Boyle Ave nest. We know so little about the dispersion patterns of these birds and it is a wonderful surprise to have her turn up again. Indeed, it’s such a rare event to actually see a banded Osprey again, especially after so many years!
Her identifying bands are: Right tarsus Blue, Left tarsus White over Blue. Greg Clancy has been contacted and he will forward the information about her to the Australian Bird and Bat Banding Scheme Office.
